won't use group policies

first of all, I'm sorry if this question has been posted a bunch of times
before but I coudn't really find a FAQ.
For a project I've set up an AD and a few clients but I am having problems
with clients not caring about the policies.

clients: win xp
server: windows server 2003
The clients have been registered in the domain and domain users can logon to
the clients. Computers have been put in an OU and policies have been applied
on those OU.
I did run GPupdate on the server and on the clients (also rebooted a few
times)

But when i run RSOP on the clients to see look for the problem (and see what
policies it does recieve), I allways get the error "RSOP data invalid, ..."

Any hints (or maybe a link to a FAQ)?

thanks,
Maarten

Maarten are your TCP/IP DNS Settings correct, the DNS must point to a DNS
Server holding the zone for active directory. This applies to all clients as
well your servers.
