I'm taking an Access class for school and just my luck, 3 days before all
assignments are due my Access 2003 starts giving me trouble...

The program wont open any file. It gives no error, no message...nothing. I
reinstalled it, still nothing. I've tried multiple files from all of the work
I've done on the program thus far...nothing.

Any suggestions?

More details please. Are you opening the Access program and then
choosing the database from the file menu, or are you trying to double click
on the database file directly?

Can you create a new file? Are all the files on your personal machine
or is there some sort of LAN connection involved.

I've tried opening the file from the file>open. I've tried double clicking
the file from windows explorer with the same result. I've even tried opening
the files from my USB drive that I've saved my work on. The program opens,
but it remains a blank workspace. It doesn't even give me an hourglass like
it's trying to open it. I can create a new file, I can't open any of the 100
files i've been working on since January...

AND to make matters worse, I went and tried to open my term paper in another
class in Word and the little happy paperclip helper tells me the file (and
all of my other docs) are unavailable...I'm sure the two are connected.

What if you copy the file off of your USB drive and onto your desktop?

I bet it is a permission issue. When you open an Office document it created
temporary files on the drive and I bet it is not able to do that on the usb
drive.

That's not the issue because I have the files save on my hard drive AND on my
usb drive and they wont open from either place.

I am not at all sure this will help, but try saving a word processing
file to the same directory. Then open that file and make a change to it and
close it again. Then try deleting it. If you can't do all of those, then
you likely have a rights issue.

Have you tried creating a new database?

Well I finally figured out what the problem was. What happened is that I had
updated my windows office stuff with the update provided. Apparently, that
made it incompatible with my current virus protection. I had to uninstall the
virus program (Norton) and then everything worked perfectly.

And I only found that out by total accident. I don't know how I would have
ever figured out that problem.

thanks for the ideas anyway.
