won't install, an installation allready runing ,when none is

Just installed Office 2003 professional for first time. Up dates and other
add on wont install as the computer reads, other installation in process
close all running programs. Nothing is being installed but the one I am
trying to install

One possibility (quite a common one) is that an earlier installation
conked out leaving the Installer service thinking it's still part-way
through an installation. Usual advice is to download the latest version
of Windows Installer:

(rejoin line without spaces)

... and if necessary the Installer cleanup utility.
