WMP9 locks up entire system

More often than not when I try to view a vid or play a tune, WMP9 completely
locks up my WIN2K Pro system -- only way out is to hit the reset button on
the computer...anyone know why or how to quit this nonsense?

Tried running dxdiag the direct x checker?

Thanks for the tip, but I ran through everything with "no problems"
detected....anything else I should try ?

Try running wmp9 via this app http://www.dependencywalker.com/
it may give a clue as to what is triggering the event.
I assume you've checked log files for any error reports.

Yes, I checked the log files and nothing shows up -- also ran the
dependencywalker and that gave me no help either. The funny thing is that
the lock-up happens on occasion, and not all the time....very weird and I'm
totally stumped...tried remove and reinstall and the problem still
happens...I have no clue what's happening.

Do you still have old version of media player, mplayer2 on yr sys. Does this
still produce lockups?
Or Real Player ?
Though as its intermittant, its difficult.
