WMP disappeared from Start menu

I just noticed I can't find Windows Media Player in my Start menu any more.
Even the search returns no results. When I navigate to C:\Program Files
(x86)\Windows Media Player, I see that wmplayer.exe doesn't have its correct
icon, just the default box thing.

I tried to add a shortcut to WMP to the Start menu manually, but it
disappeared the same way after a restart. The application itself works fine.
I'm using Vista Home Premium x64. Any suggestions?

What changed or was installed to your system before this started happening?
Did you at some point WMP in "Hide" mode in the system's Set Program Access
and Defaults control panel?
