WMP 11 on vista

I just bought a new computer with vista home premium and WMP 11 already on
it. When I go to websites and attempt to watch movies it says a plugin is
missing, application/x-mplayer2, it then tells me that no correction can be
found and gives me the option to manually install. When I click this I get
to a site to download WMP 11 for xp. I tried running the setup files for
that, but when i did I got an error message (both times I have tried it) that
says a newer version of WMP is installed, this setup cannot be used to
install or repair your system. I just want to watch a few trailers etc, is
there anything i can do about this?

Wow, you are quick. I have tried on both explorer and firefox neither worked,
and i reallize that i can't install the xp version, i was just saying that
that is the only option I had from the websites offered as places to manually
install the plugins.

im not sure.. perhaps someone else can help you.. but the only way
to fix media player11 is to use the vista dvd and do a repair....

You can do what I always do when confronted by the "Media Player Extension"
download. Ignore it. My WMP 11 works perfectly fine without the extension.
The only thing I can think of is that the website uses another media player
as their default media player, thus needing the extension to play their
content on your WMP. This is only a guess, mind you. However, as I mentioned
earlier, I just ignore it and everything works fine anyway. I hope this helps
you.

You might want to post to
microsoft.public.windows.vista.music_pictures_video, and to one of the media
player newsgroups:

microsoft.public.multimedia.windows.mediaplayer
microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player

You can also install the ActiveX Plug-in from Firefox , which I believe the
Firefox site has links to.
