I would like to know how I can download a movie so that I
can play it on a dvd to the television. at the moment the
dvdplayer does not reconise the format ,any ideas.

You must use a DVD authoring application. Try the demo of Ulead DVD Movie

Someday when DVD players support HighMat and Windows Media Video files,
adding a file to a DVD and taking it to the DVD player hooked up to the TV
will be as easy as you want it to be, but not today.

Second, not all players recognize all DVDs. Check this compatibility chart
and/or ask the manufacturer of your DVD player:

Well you can't with movie maker 1 0r 2. The only way to
burn it to a dvd is to have a dvd burner, and burning
software. If you have a regular cd-rw drive you can
always burn a movie to a vcd(Video CD) which most dvd
players can read. This will require burning software
that can burn a vcd. Most of the software I know about
starts around $20.00.
