Why? Why? Why? I have been using the various versions of activesync for years
it worked, never had a problem. So why have Microsoft decided that they
should abandon this tried and tested software and replace it with windows
mobile device centre, which despite using all the beta versions has not
managed to successfully sync with my PDA once. Hello microsoft wake up most
of Vista is a step forward but WMDC is a leap backwards give us back
activesync it's been months since my PDA has synced with my home computer
thankfully I am still running xp pro at work.

The other unfortunate thing about WMDC is it is not compatible with the ROM
updater that most device developers use to provide ROM updates for the
devices through active Sync. I just about turned my Dell AXIM x50v into a
dead brick trying to do a ROM upgrade. It went through the initial few steps
of blowing everything away and then failed. The response I got form
Microsoft was that I would have to get Dell to rewrite their ROM update
package to be compatible with WMDC. Dell said WMDC is still in Beta and they
don't support anything from Microsoft that is in Beta and they had no plans
to make any changes to the AXIM x50v to make it compatible with VISTA since
it has been replaced with the x51v.

WMDC is still in beta. Hopefully they'll wrap up a final version soonish.
