with ICS enabled i can no longer share files or printers

I have two computers. A desktop running xp pro and a
notebook
running xp home. I connected them to a hub and tried to
share the dialup inetrnet connection that I get from the
desktop to the notebook. that works fine, but after I did
this i can no longer share files between the two
computers.
I turned off the internet connection firewall, and had no
luck
is there another setting that I am missing.

Try un-sharing the Internet connection, then re-sharing it as
described here:

I don't know what steps you took, so I can't say for sure what's
wrong, but I know that the steps in that article work.
