finally got my wireless router to work with the net.

But at the moment got secuirty turn off.If i turn on secuirty on the laptop which is getting the net from the desktop pc.

Do both need wep switch on both.

Plus is there any software for free telling you if someone has log onto your network.

If you want to avoid the chance of others using your wireless connection to access the net, or the data on your PC / Laptop, then you do need to enable the security features such as WEP.

As for tracking other people trying to access your wireless, you may like to enable MAC filtering which will only allow designated machines to communicate across the wireless router. It might also be worth restricting the use of DHCP. This will not track any attacks, but will provide a good degree of protection if someone does attempt to compromise your system.
