I have been through two SpeedStream wireless routers. Is Linksys a better
router or just which is better that isn't priced out of my range, say $50
-$100?
Appreciate any infor because I have been to all the sites for wireless
router price comparison, etc.
I have Win XP Media center edition, ver 2002, sp2

I've been pretty happy with NetGear firewalls/access points.

I would agree that if you are experiencing hardware failures with this
brand, it's time to try something else. I often switch brands when a client
experiences router failure, but I am not aware of any hard evidence on brand
reliability. Although many low end wireless routers have been in service
for years without problems, I tend to think of these as 'throw away'
devices - this is especially true in central Florida, the lightning capital
of the world. If you get a year + usage out it, you got your money's worth.
Whatever you replace your SpeedStream with, plug it into a battery backup
with a built-in line conditioner. Power failure/surges are a major cause of
damage in these devices.

I've been using Linksys for 6+ years, but have also heard consistently good
reports about Netgear. My current router is a Linksys WRT-54GS; the WRT-54G
is just as good if you have non-Linksys wireless adapters in the network.
