wireless network

Does anybody have experience setting up a wireless network using an internet
access point (linksys WAP54G) connected to a cable modem?
How can you access the Acess point to configure it if you dont have a router
or dont have any other pc connected to the network? Does connecting the AP
to the desktop pc with an ethernet cable (all seperated from the cable
model) work? Or is this only possible with a (wireless) router? If so, how
do u do that?

(my wireless netword card is PCI - OS Windows XP)

tanx!

check the documentation for the access point. there is probably a default
ip address that you can point your web browser at to access its
configuration menus.

I've done that... the manual says the AP is supposed to be connected to a
hub/router/switch, not directly to the cable modem. That way it can be
accessed through a desktop already connected to the (wired) network. But it
doesnt mention the possibility of connecting it directly to the modem ...
Hence also not mentioning how to accessing it connected that way

So I can use the wireless connection between the desktop (with card) and the
access point before having configured the acess point or connect it to the
internet?

return the access point and get your money back and just
get a wireless router. you can then still have 4 wired
puters and 12 wireless as you see fit. set up takes 5 to 7
mins.

the default configuration will probably allow you enough access to do what
you need, most of those things seem to default to a simple enough setup to
get you started. the instructions with it should tell you how to do this
and what the default ip address is to access it.

Yes, you connect a WAP either to a hub/router/switch or to a computer
that is connected to a network by a hub/router/switch. If you are
trying to set up a wireless network and you don't already have an
extant network, then you don't want a WAP - you want a wireless router
like one from Netgear (very nice) or Linksys. In all cases (WAP and
router), you configure the device from a browser. Post back with
exactly what you're trying to do for more help.
