Hello experts :-D,

I have a wireless router to my laptop and i keep getting
disconnected and connection connecting to another network.
I have a wireless network in my apartment but it also
picks up someone elses. How can i have to connect only to
mine and not pick up someone elses network. Evertime i log
in it either disconnects me from my network or connect to
someone elses. Can someone help me? What steps can be done
to correct this problem? Any assistance can be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you,

The important part of this is that you and the other are
probably on the same channel. My D-Link router uses
channel 6 by default, and I'm sure every D-Link will come
up on channel 6. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want
to offer a different channel in the drop-down. It isn't
an issue for me so I haven't pursued it.

As long as you are on the same channel, you will suffer
interference even if you make changes to implement
security. But once you have that resolved, be sure to put
some security on your network. The router should have a
setting to stop broadcasting the SSID; make it so. It
should also have a setting for enabling and setting a 64
bit WEP encryption key. (I used the last 10 hex
characters of the WAN MAC address, but any set of 10 hex
characters is as good as any other... unless you choose
all 0s or all Fs or something easy.) Enter that key in
each of the client computers also.

Good luck!

Mike
