I have a MS Wireless Intellmouse. I have upgraded to the 5.5 version of
Intellimouse and am running XP SP2. Betteries are good and signal strength
is excellent. From time to time the mouse is very sluggish as if some other
program is competing for resources. A wired mouse seems to work fine. I
am also running the Norton suite of security products. Any ideas how to
trouble shoot this problem?

I had exactly the same problem when I upgraded to 5.5 and also replaced my
venerable Wireless Desktop with a spiffy new one that has a more recent
version (2.0A) of the mouse. It drove me crazy for about an hour (it was
especially bad in Word) and I was seriously thinking of uninstalling
everything and going back to an earlier restore point. Then a little bird
said to me "Move the receiver to a place where the mouse can see it better."
I did and the problem cleared up *immediately*. There may be something in
5.5 and/or the 2.0A mouse that makes the mouse a little near-sighted,
perhaps?
