In using my Intellimouse, it (the cursor) very frequently "balks" (that is,
it doesn't move smoothly - even though I am moving the mouse, the cursor
will stop for a second of two - then continue to go where I intended it to
go). I uninstalled the software - then reinstalled (version 5 - the
latest). Same problem. I have another Microsoft mouse at work (wireless)
which works fine and I also have a Logitech Bluetooth which works fine.
Until recently, They ALL worked fine and all while loaded on the same
system. The batteries are brand new. What could be the problem? I am
virus-free and have no major programs (memory hogs) running in the
background when this happens. Also, I have emptied my Norton Garbage Bin.
Did I miss anything? Thanks...........

Is the mouse optical or roller ball? If roller ball, clean the rollers.
They gunk up pretty easily. If not, disregard.

Right-click taskbar and select task manager, click the processes tab and
view the CPU column. Shut down any process that isn't necessary. It's up
to you to figure out what's what. Once you've cleaned up the number of
processes running in the background, you may find that the hesitations
have disappeared. In the CPU, column, look to see if anything in
particular is using a lot of CPU cycles. That is likely where the
problem is.
