Wireless debugging using VS2005 / WM2003

Hi,

We develop solutions for Symbol PDAs (running WM2003se) with integrated
barcode reader. Currently we are using VS2003 with ActiveSync 3.71 but would
like to upgrade to VS2005 /CF.NET 2 but I'm not quite sure if that will work
for us..

Since our applications are all about barcode scanning we definitly can't
work with the PDA in a cradle while debugging. Likewise, because of the
hardware scanner, we can't use the emulator.
It seems like AS4 has removed support for WiFi sync, but older postings in
this newsgroups indicates that this is only valid for WM5 devices.

So, my question is: Will it be possible for us to develop and debug
applications for WM2003 using VS2005/CF2 with requirering the PDA to be
docked in the cradle ? We're not using AS for anything else than
running/debugging, so if there's a different approach that using AS for
debugging, that would be fine.

TIA

Cheers,
Lars

Lars,

Have you tried creating a relationship between a device and a desktop using
a connected cradle, and then using the ActiveSync start menu option on the
device to connect back to the PC via the wireless network?

Martin.

Thats what I do today with VS2003 / AS 3.7 but it seems like this feature
was removed from AS 4.x

I recall a lot of complaints last year on a number of PocketPC forums when
it became clear that wireless synching was removed in ActiveSync 4. I think
this is what you are encountering. It's annoying. I'd like to be able to
test my stuff without having to be tethered to my laptop or PC.

I have not seen anything posted that suggests WM 2003 devices are unaffected
by the change in AS 4. If you are using AS 4 then you have no WiFi sync.
Simple.

This page says you are limited to "cable, cradle, Bluetooth, or infrared
connections."

So if your device has infrared or BlueTooth you might try those ... ?
