When I want to connect to my 2nd laptop here at home I see other wireless
connections near me...they are security enabled connections like mine. Can
they connect to my laptop without my knowledge? I tried to block them from
showing up on my connection screen without sucess...I have had problems with
someone trying to buy on the internet using my son's e-mail address and code
without our knowledge...and feel that this wireless connection may be the
problem...

That's the way wireless works; it's in the air. The way you protect your
computers is by using the highest level of encryption that all devices on
your network support and not leaving the router's password and your SSID at
the default.
