wireless card configuration - xp problem?

Hi,

Thanks for checking this one out. I have XP pro op. sys.
on a toshiba satallite & am trying to connect to the net
using a Microsoft Broadband Networking Wireless Adapter
MN-520. I have a modem from my isp and a netgear
cable/dsl wireless router mr814 v2. My husband has
virtually the same setup and he is able to connect to the
internet, but I am not - can't even detect the wireless
access point.

I just got off the phone with NetGear support - they
confirmed that my card is properly installed; however
they believe that my operating system is not configured
to detect the nearest wireless access point. What do I
need to do to solve this problem? Netgear mentioned that
microsoft should be able to tell me how to configure my
wireless network so that it can correctly detect through
my card. Anybody know what I should do?

modification: it's me again. I changed my ssid manually
and was able to connect to the internet...which leaves
the larger problem: why can't my wireless card auto-
detect? any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
