wired and wireless router?

Hi all,

I am relatively new to the wireless network world. I have a new laptop
with wireless capability but an old wired router with a desktop
attached. Can I purchase a router that can be wired to the desktop but
be connected wirelessly to the laptop, or will I need to buy a wireless
network adapter for the desktop also. If I can do the former, does
this work with all wireless routers or will I need to shop around?

I want to use the desktop for both internet access via the router and
to access an external hard drive.

Thanks

You can purchase a wireless adapter point and connect it to the old router,
but if the old router is more than 2-3 years old it would make more sense
to just buy a new wireless router. This router will have ethernet ports
just like the old one, so you can connect your desktop to it as you are
doing now. The laptop can connect wirelessly. Here are some links to help
you:

You don't need to purchase Linksys hardware, but this site has good pictures
