wipe hard disk & clean install

I

Ian Campbell

I would like to repartition, completely wipe my hard disk and perform a
clean install of xp pro, without some dodgy stuff which was there before. So
far I have had no luck with the "format" command in command line "as the
volume is still in use". I have attempted to perform a clean install, which
although successfull managed to leave all my old programs and documents
intact, possibly including some old viruses. Can anyone please help,
preferably in plain English, as I`m not very tech savvy.
