WinZip time warp problem

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate newsgroup for this question but maybe
someone can help by redirecting me.

When I receive winzip files that have been created in a different time zone,
the extracted files do not adjust for my time zone. e.g., my computer is set
to EST and if I receive files from London (GMT), the timestamp will be up to
five hours into the future. Is there a way to resolve this?

Files within a zip file always retain the time and date they were
created. If one of the files had been created in 1999 when it was zipped,
it'd still have that date when you extract it. In order for it to be "in
the future", someone would have had to have zipped up files that were brand
new, send you the zip file, and you unzipped it before the time difference
had elapsed.
Why does it matter?
