I just added more memory to my computer, to a total of 2gb (512 x 4). The
system recorgnises the new ram but winxp refuses to start, it keeps
rebooting. When the additional ram were removed windows booted successsfuly.
The mother board can support upto 4gb of memory

How can I get winxp to start with the 2gb memory. I do a lot of video
editing and multimedia stuff

Thanks

You may need to check with your PC manufacturer. XP Pro can handle 2GB but
you may have bad memory boards or the slots are bad. Try pulling out the two
original and try the two new ones in the first two slots.

Check whether the RAMs are mismatched or not.You will get the best
results if all RAM in a particular computer matches in all respects.

Try this free tool to check your memory (follow the directions on the site).
Any errors at all means there's a problem with your memory. If it shows
errors, you'll have to check each stick of RAM individually.

Download from here: http://www.memtest86.com/

I forgot to mention that I am running Dual Channell. Thanks to those who have
replied I will check the new memory module.

Windows seems to be much pickier about the memory modules matching. Try
taking out either the old or the new memory. Then try the other way.

I just bought an I dentical 512 DRR400 to ensure the memory matched and
eliminate a missmatch. During POST everything is fine with the 2gb memory
installed, and I have dual channel enabled but windows will not start up to
the welcome screen.

Any Idea's
