WinXP task bar problem

For some unknown reason, my task bar has reverted to the Windows classic
version from the silver XP task bar that was running quite happily since
installation.

The usual way of changing these styles was, so I thought, through
Control Panel/Display/Appearance, but the XP styles have disappeared.

Is there some mystery virus taking over my machine, and how do I get the
XP task bar back?

Make sure that the Themes service is set to Automatic and running.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | Click the V next to Startup type |
Select Automatic | Click the Apply button | Click the Start button |
When the Themes service has started, click OK | Close Services

If XP Pro you can use Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |

Navigate to >>>

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\
Force Classic Start Menu
Set to: Not Configured

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Desktop Themes\
Load a specific visual style file or force Windows Classic
Set to: Not Configured

Many thanks, back to normal.

I don't know how "Themes" in Services got changed to Manual, but it
was. One of those mysterious windows "things that go bump in the night2
syndromes.
