I have experienced a similar situation. I have a HP
Pavilion ze1250 laptop that came with WinXP Home. I have
wiped the system clean and loaded WinXP Pro (5 times
now). I can't make any connection to the profiles on the
Win 2003 AD Domain Controller.
During or after set up, I can add the system to my Domain
as my domain admin profile.
The repeated message is "The profile can't be found on the
Domain Controller. The system will use local profile."
The next message that appears is "The local copy of the
profile can't be located. System will store your settings
in a temporary profile and all changes will be lost upon
logging off of the system."
The only profile apparently allowed is the administrator
account. I have NEVER experienced this behavior on any
other WinXP system that I have set up. I have compared all
of the security settings form this laptop against my Win
XP Pro desktop and all appear the same. However, I am
missing something because this laptop (Ethernet wired, not
wireless) just won't connect with the stored AD or local
profiles.
