My computer was slowing down so I chose an earlier restore point in
WinXP. However, when I rebooted all I got was a blue screen with a
mouse pointer. Win Task Manager runs in the background and I can use
it to selectively run things but I can't seem to get my destop or start
menu or toolbar going. I did navigate using Task Manager to a
different restore point and got the same problem no matter which
restore point I chose.

Anybody got a suggestion?
Thanks.

Try restoring from Safe Mode.

I'm having the exact same problem, except that I have system restore turned
off.

In safe mode I get the same blank screen with a pointer and with Task
Mgr in the background.

If in your crippled state you can get online, try this.

'Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar'
line 195:right

Michael,
Thank you for your suggestion. Went to the site and tried it.
Didn't work but it was a good idea and I appreciate your
help. I guess I'll slog along until I reach the point when I'm ready
to reinstall XP.
