Winxp Keeps crashing

Hello,

For awhile now anytime i try to play Hoyle Cardgames on Winxp anywhere from
10 min to 1/2 hour into gameplay my computer crashes. So i updated my video
card and got a new hard drive with a clean install of Xp, and re-installed
all updates to xp with SP2. Its still happening. The message in the error log
is as follows.

" The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008x
(0xc0000005, 0xfdd2671, 0xee69f5b4, 0x00000000) A Dump was save in
c:\windows\minidump\mini080305-01.dmp"

Anyone have any idea how i can stop this. I have updated my drivers as much
as i can. I have 256 mb ram, 110gb HD 1.7mzh processor and a brand new video
card with 128 mb memory.

Random crashes are often caused by failing hardware, with RAM being the
first suspect. Test the RAM - I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.
Obviously, you have to get the program from a working machine. You will
either download the precompiled Windows binary to make a bootable
floppy or the .iso to make a bootable cd. If you want to use the
latter, you'll need to have third-party burning software on the machine
where you download the file - XP's built-in burning capability won't do
the job. In either case, boot with the media you made. The test will
run immediately. Let the test run for an extended period of time -
unless errors are seen immediately. If you get any errors, replace the
RAM.

Hello,

This is me, DaveM. I ran memtest86+ for 6 hours, is that long enough? It
past the test 20 times with no errors. The hd is brand new, the Video
card is brand new. Is it possible that the game and either SP2 or one of
the many windows updates that I downloaded is conflicting? I played this
game right after first installing XP on the New HD and I was able to
play without crashing.

Yes, you've certainly run Memtest for long enough. The only thing I can
think of related to Windows Updates that might have tripped you up is
if you installed drivers from there. That's never a good idea. If you
think you might have done this, roll back the drivers to ones you knew
worked.

Hoyle Cardgames certainly shouldn't stress a computer like 3D
first-person shooters. Perhaps your computer is overheating. Open the
computer and run it open, observing all fans - particularly the one on
the video card (if there is one). Does it feel very hot in there? If
you have a motherboard monitor, it would be a good idea to see how how
your system is getting.
