I had an issue in winxp sp2 home. I did a repair re-install of winxp SP1 and
applied SP2. control panel says SP2, winver says Build 2600
xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158, and msinfo32 says same thing in HAL description.
However, when trying to install windows defender beta2 or IE7, I get unable
due to incorrect service pack level...to me, it is saying I have SP2, acts
and feels like SP2, but a registry entry or something is still referencing
SP1, preventing Windows downloads. Any suggestions?

Hi Rusty,
Your XP Home Service pack SP2, it may be uncomplete or damaged, so for this
reason Windows Defender can't see SP2 as Functioning Update Package.
To solve this problem try uninstall and reinstall SP2, for more details go

Hope this helps
