WinXP [Home] startup anomoly - I think!

Does this seem familiar to any one?
I have a FIC AD11( AMD 1.4) running XP Home [SP2 plus recent patches] and
have the following palarvar each time I boot up.
On switch on the machine starts to POST, reboots, shows an increasing white
bar across the screen, and gives me the screen normally obtained by pressing
F8. I take the Restart Windows nromally <rather than SAFE> option when the
machine then repeats the sequence sometimes three times before finally going
to a correct bootup - ie Windows XP Home logo screen then booting fully and
runs with no problems. The eventlog doesn't show anything amiss. Most times
if I reboot after this its ok but always the next day the same thing! The
problem seems to be in between the POST sequence and finding the bootstrap
file - its almost as if it doesn't know where to look for it?

Could be a power supply problem, or a problem with the hard drive.
Start by downloading a drive diagnostic utility from the hard drive
manufacturer's web site. This will create a boot floppy. Run it from
there.

you have corrupted files due to a drive/interface
problem. I had a similar issue, which was stopped by
installing the latest driver for the chipset from
http://www.viatech.com/
or the motherboard vendor site.

Lester thanks for your response [and to you too Rock]. I have made some
further searches at the VIA website and have downloaded and installed
4in1443.exe, which purpots to be a bug fix for thechipset I have. Im cynical
enough to wait fi or a while to see if it solves my problem, but fingers
crossed

In Romans 1 there are qualities of Unregenerate man listed
which describe him in the last days.
Is your quality found on this list??
