Please excuse the cross post - I posted on another group and I saw something
recommending posting it here.

I have one WinXP Pro laptop - I can succesfuuly create a network place for
it, with my other computers (Win2K Pro) on my home network (only using
default 'WORKGROUP')

however, I've just bought a new computer (WinXP Home), and added it to the
network and (and gone through the network setup wizard) but I can't get it
to be recognized within the workgroup....

Can someone point me to a page that tells me points to check, or at least
give me some hints - - I thought I knew what I was doing, but I'm no longer
sure...and can't remember how I did it for the laptop...

I have all the same protocols, etc chosen in the Network control panel (the
laptop and the new computer), however, the new computer can't see the other
computers and the other computers can't see the new one...

Help!

Help!

Start by checking for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and for registry
setting restrictanonymous, on the problem computer.
Misconfigured / overlooked firewalls:

Registry setting restrictanonymous:

Make sure that all necessary services are being started properly!

Next, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from the problem computer,
and from 1 or 2 other computers, as a start. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.
