WinXP Hang-up

I installed WinXP. During set-up process, it performed its first restart
before continuing to finish its intallation process. I've waited for 30
minutes until I realized that my PC is not responding. Even the NUMLOCK led
of my keyboard don't do not respond eventhough I tried to press NUMLOCK keys
several times. So I decided to hit restart button.
After restarting, the installation process continues untill its done. Since
then, everytime I tried to restart or shutdown my PC, it hangs-up.

Problems with installation are usually due to hardware issues. Why were you
installing XP? Was this to fix a problem? What is the system configuration,
computer model, CPU, RAM amounts, hard drives and how they are partitioned?
What version of XP? Has XP been on this system before? If so any problems?

Here is a link to troubleshooting hardware. I would start by checking the
memory and hard drive.

This is the first time I installed XP, everything in the system are new,
which mean no OS has been installed before. Here are the hardware specs:

Motherboard: Asus - P5PE-VM (LGA775 socket)
CPU: Intel Pentium D 805(2.66GHz) Dual Core)
Hard Disk: 80GB Seagate SATA (2 partition)
Memory: 512MB PC-400 DDR (1pc only)
OS: WinXP (SP1)

Thank you very much for the help. I really appreciate it.

Ok, I would definitely look to a hardware problem. It has the latest BIOS I
would guess?

Sorry I don't know about the chassis pins. Make sure you check for an
updated BIOS.

I see...thanks.

One thing, during assembling of peripherals, I dropped the CPU. I checked if
there are any damage, I saw a small white markings due to impact from the
ground. It's too small that you wont be able to see it immediately.

Now that I had install the OS, would this be a probable cause? (this is only
my own stupid wild guess)

Anyway, thank you very much for the help.
