WinXP Error with IE6

Recently I restored my WinXP installation with recovery
cd's from Compaq for my Presario 6010US. Now, when I log
onto the internet I get the following error within 1-5
minutes after connecting:

The system is shutting down. Please save all work in
progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost.
This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM

Message
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call
service terminated unexpectedly.

I'm at a loss. Can anybody share any advice on this one?

Thank you for your help! I have already installed service
pack 1, and that did not work, so I'll try searching for
the virus.

service pack 1 and it will resolve your problem.
