WINS problem

E

eotrue

We have one domain server which is also our wins and dns
server. For some reason it keeps registering our email
server as the domain server and the actual domain server
as just another server on the lan. The domain server is
running 2000 with service pack 4 and all hotfixes. It has
joined the domain. Are there any suggestions?

What registration are you talking about? The Msbrowse? The domain master
browser? You can stop a machine by participating in browser elections by
setting the following registry to to 0

HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Browser\Paramaters\MaintainServerlist - set this
value to 0 or false

You can also set this value of "IsDomainMaster to 1 or true on your Domain
Controller(the one with the PDC Emulator Role) to help it hold the Domain
Master Broswer Wins Registration.

What kind of problems are you having? WINS is not as important as it was
with NT4 and DNS should take care of most issues IF you are using Win2k and
above for all the systems and clients.

Hi,

Are you talking about the Domain 1Ch and/or the Domain 1Bh records? Is the
email server a domain controller? is this the only Wins server?

Thanks,

This is the only wins server on the lan. The e-mail server
is not a domain server. I do not know what Domain 1ch or
1bh is.
