WINS error

D

Daniel Jenkins

I get an error message saying that the WINS service failed to start. It
suggests a problem with the wins.mdb database being corrupt. I've checked
the other Windows 2000 servers and they don't have this service running nor
the database for it. It tells me to clear out the log and restart WINS.

Do you think that this could be the reason that this server is continuously
dumping memory to the monitor and rebooting itself?

Thanks in advance

Could be. You can pack/repair the WINS database, though - do a KB search.

Do you actually need WINS, though? Unless you have downlevel clients such as
NT or Win9x/ME, or need to browse across subnets, you probably don't.
