Well it's been out since the 5th, I only just noticed.

WinPcap: The Windows Packet Capture Library

"After more than two years of hard work, the final version of WinPcap 3.1 is available from today in the download section of the
WinPcap website. This new release represents an important milestone for the project: major improvements and bug fixes have been
carried out during this long period of time, and the result is the most stable and reliable version of WinPcap in its history.
Thanks to all the users that contributed to this result by submitting bug reports and thoroughly testing the several betas that were
made available."

Don't know, what site did it connect to?

It certainly didn't try to connect to any site while installing on mine.

Mel.

It's a real mystery: the site is "staphna2.securesites.net" (128.121.79.138,
port 80) but I'm not able to find any information about it (i'm advised by
my Kerio 4).
Regards.

Interesting, 128.121.79.138 is the IP address of www.WinPcap.org and of
www.cacetech.com who appear to be a new copyright holder of WinPCap.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, ZoneAlarm still reported nothing
(using windows 98SE so Kerio 4 is not compatible with WinPcap) -
However, as I recall the install is different on XP /2000...

Regards,

Mel.

Anyway, no reason to connect while installing, mainly without any warning on
the site.

None I can think of.

I've checked my router log too and nothing got past Zonealarm.

I notice that there is a link to the WinPcap site shown in the installer's
window, is it possible that you might have inadvertently clicked it?
If not, I guess it warrants closer investigation.

Mel.

Not at all, as soon as I start installing, I'm requested (by Kerio) to
permit a connection to that address. It's true that after two or three
seconds it appears the first panel of the installation with the option you
say, but this happens after the initial request. Maybe, just a wrong
compilation of the package.
Thanks.
Giovanni
