Sometimes when I do updates I uninstall the original program and sometimes I
do not. It just depends on the program. Winpatrol is oneof those I
uninstall, delete, then download the new program. This time around, with
Winpatrol, ( I always make this program part of suto start), whenever I boot
I now have two Winpatrol's running and appearing in my task bar. I right
click and exit one of them-and the other continues running with all its
options.

So why does this occur? And what are the options to stop the two from
booting? I have not checked ( as in look-see) msconfig or start-up menus
as of yet. But I find this behaviour strange. Does anyone else have this
problem occur with the new update?

You possibly installed WinPatrol in 2 different folders. Open your Startup
Folder and you will possibly find 2 shortcuts to WinPatrol. Delete the older
one and you're good to go. Follow the link the old shortcut points to and
delete the files and folder.

Thank you for that. But I uninstalled the first one, then deleted it. I
kept the program in a folder and deleted all components in that folder after
uninstall. That left an empty folder into which I downloaded the new one.
So that could not be the problem but it must be something else.

Have you actually looked in StartUp and msconfig?

As of the time of posting the original message to the group-no. For some
reason I could not run msconfig. I spelled it wrong a time or two due to a
brain fart, I guess. I finally typed it right but still I could not get to
the file. I then tried systeminternals and could not find my start up . So
I then used JV-16 and found two running instances of winpatrol there. One
was "system monitor.exe." and the second was winpatrol.exe. I killed one
and left the other. No problems. I think it was something I did when I
downloaded the new version with the update.

I am a happy camper again and now only own one dog down in my task
bar...whooo-hooo-or something like that-I need all the free ram I can get...
lol

thanx Al.
