Winows XP not opening correctly

I did a system restore to get rid of a spyware pop up. After I did the system
restore the XP start up screen runs & then the screen goes black & the
computer stops operating even though the power is on. When I try to start in
safe mode it does the same thing

Sounds like the SR didn't get rid of anything. Some malware hides
inside SR folders which makes it very difficult to eradicate. You may
have to perform a Repair install if you can't keep Windows up long
enough to download and run some spyware programs such as Ad-Aware and
Spybot.
