| Is there a Windows 2000 equilivent to this Win98 folder?

My Win2K Pro here has both C:\WINNT\Driver Cache\i386 and
C:\WINNT\OPTIONS\CABS but no C:\i386.

Steve

C:\WINNT\Driver Cache\i386 - not the original distribution files
C:\WINNT\OPTIONS\CABS - This is a non-standard setup that could be a remnant of an upgrade
or a companies port of the concept of Win9x/ME being installed in; %windir%\OPTIONS\CABS

C:\i386 is the industry standard because the files come distributed that way on the CDROM
and if you do a Service Pack slip-stream installation (ServicePack.exe -u -s:c:\) is assumes
the directory is called i386 or is won't work.

After copying i386 from the CDROM to the hard disk is just a matter of using Regedit and
going to....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Installation Sources
SourcePath

to point to c:\

Thanks for the info David, but now I am puzzled because this was niether
an upgrade install of 2K nor an OEM pre-install, I did a clean install
last year from a full retail (not OEM) Win2K CD. I'll have to take a
peek at some other 2K boxes here to satisfy my curiosity now.

Steve

It isn't put there by the install procedure. You must do it yourself. Copy
the i386 folder from your CD to wherever you want it to be on your hard
drive.

Oh ok - I see now. I was reading carefully enough. Thanks.

Steve

I was NOT reading carefully enough. Apparently I'm not typing too well
today either. I think it's DST lag.

Steve

I know how 'ya feel :-)

Where on the Windows 2000 CD do I find the "Startup" and CABS to put in this directory?

CDROM --> i386
