Found two programs, WinMaid and HoneyPot, at this new(?) site
http://www.allwackedout.com/

WinMaid (formerly Windowz Cleaner) appears to record data (an "image")
from 15 locations (e.g., select registry entries, startup folder,
shared DLLs, running processes, DNS entry) and then compare it (when
manually requested?) against a prior "clean" image. Differences may
be malware. Any item in the current image can be deleted.

- Looking at the screenshot helped me interpret the description.
- I haven't tried it.
- Also available from Major Geeks.

Freeware? Donationware?

Excerpts from various pages:

"... "WinMaid" (was Windowz Cleaner, but do to complaints in the name
it has been chaged.) It's a FREE program designed to find or hunt down
any spyware program."

"Note: This program has only been tested on Windows 2000 and Windows
XP."

Features:
15 Diffrent search areas
Ability to clean anyhing found!
Suggest Spyware/Virus automatically. (This option is greatly improved
once a "Clean Image" is made.)
Uses a "Clean Image" that you build to ensure system stability.
Copy the list to the Clipboard for forum posting.
Allows a very simple HTTP server to show your results to others on the
web.
Built in Registry Viewer so you can easily check the results your
where given.

"This is by no means spyware/adware it is design to combat the
problem."

--------

HoneyPot v1.0 is a program written to track and trap hackers
activities. It was designed to be fast, easy, and good way to learn
hacker habits.
(A honeypot is a machine set up on a network to draw the attention of
attackers away from your production site while collecting as much
information as you can.)

Features:

Allow for Port Ranges - with this you can easily setup application
ports to watch and responsed to.

Use your own response
- with the Response Builder you can emulate any program or system
that you want with responses that will look genuine to the attaker.
- If that's not enough, you can also setup an application port to act
as a proxy server for a real service you have hosted, HoneyPot will
still record the data recived and sent.

View attackers information - When an attack happens the port used,
attackers ip, and Data sent are all stored so you can view it later.
Also there is the option to trace back the attackers IP

Advance Trapping - This option is used to create a number of dynamic
watches that move accross the total number ports to watch for any
activity.
- You can also allow this to find the correct response that the
attacker is trying to get.

Keep Ports Alive - When an Advance Trapping port gets hit it will
stay open for a set amount of time to record additional attacks that
might come in.

IDS - You can also set the option for the built-in packet scanner to
watch all data going into your computer. (This is still a work in
progress, check back soon for more info.)

I tried WinMaid out a couple of days ago, and Yeesh! I didn't like it so
much. It had some interesting features, but seemed buggy and incoherent.
