I am trying to create custom help files as well as
context sensitive help for an Access 2000 application.
The client does NOT want to go to the internet for the
help but wants it as part of the program.

I saw an article which stated that the only way to get
context sensitive help for an Access form or control is
to use WinHelp 4.0 to compile the help files into .hlp
files.

I tried to install WinHelp 4.0 but it seems to hang up
with a blank screen once I choose to install the full
program.

I am using Access 2000 and Windos XP Professional.
WinHelp 4.0 states that it is used for Windows 95 and
Windows 98.

Any ideas as to how to create the help files?

Thank you for any help given.

Open XP's "Help and Support". From the toolbar select:
Options > Install and Share Windows Help

Art,
I am trying to create custom help files as well as
context sensitive help for an Access 2000 application.
The client does NOT want to go to the internet for the
help but wants it as part of the program.

I believe this is true if you want to provide popup help to describe
the individual controls in a dialog (sometimes referred to as "What's
This? Help"). However, if you want to display a standard help topic in
a separate help viewer, you should be able to use HTML Help. For more
information, see:

I tried to install WinHelp 4.0 but it seems to hang up
with a blank screen once I choose to install the full
program.

Are you perhaps referring to Help Workshop, Microsoft's free tool for
creating WinHelp files? If so, this should install without problem on
any 32-bit version of Windows. The latest version of Help Workshop
(4.03) is available from:

These pages should give you some pointers:
