Windox XP Search

I have Windows XP SP2. When I use "search" it will only search the root
directory "C" and "documents and settings". Why is this?. I can go to
Windows Explorer, any programme and pick a file, so I know the file is there
but search will not find it. Do I have a problem and is there a fix.

Look in the "search options" --> "advanced options" and check the "search
subfolders" item.

Agent Ransack is a much better search engine than the native search which
comes with XP. Look at

It could be Search System Folders rather than sub directories settings. Depending on exactly what you are seeing in the status bar.
