I have a WindowsXP Home Edition computer and a Windows98 computer. I
have a Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router connected to the WindowsXP
and it's modem. I want my Windows98 to be able to go online and also
be able to see the WindowXP's shared documents. My ISP is Verizon.

However, the only thing I can do right now is see the Window98's shared
files from the WindowsXP. I am unable to go online or gain access to
the WindowXP's shared folder (I get a, " \\[name] is not accessible No
permission to access resource" error message when I try to access the
folder)

How can I fix these problems? Thanks.

Have you tried running the "setup a home or small office network" wizard?

Click Network connections in control panel on the XP machine and click the
link on the left hand side. Follow your nose..

Hope that helps.

On the WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PC(s) using those account(s), and you
will be able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall
is disabled on the internal LAN connection.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:

On Windows XP: Use the windows explorer to go to the folder you want shared.
Right click and go to "Sharing and Security". Make sure that "Share this
folder on the network" is selected and give it a name.
