WindowsXp runs too slow!!

How you guys doing?
I have a Compaq Laptop, the model # is 1700T, it
originally came with WindowsMe, and as soon as I got it I
upgraded to windowsXP Home Edition. But a few weeks ago I
ran into some problems, windowsXP wasn't loading properly
so I decided to uninstall it and made a new installation.
But now windowsXP runs so slow, it takes a long time to
log into the system, the restart process takes way too
long ( a lot of blank screens) even a right-click on my
desktop takes too long, any ideas, (virtual memory won't
help). I would appreciate any suggestions, thank you!!

aside from being an unstable security nightmare, windows is a major
resource-hog that can't manage memory properly. solution: for a
superior, stable, secure operating system, switch to linux.
