I purchased purchased windowsXP Media center upgrade and
have had the following experiences. This was purchased to
upgrade from a windows98 system. I hosed the windows98
system. When I tried to install windowsXP, it quite
correctly began the intallation and, not finding an old
windows system on this machine, asked me to mount the CD
for a previously purchased operating system. When it
read the CD for windows98 the installation process put
out the message "invalid system disk". How may I get out
of this withoug purchasing a windowsXP media center
complete edition?

thanks,

John

Sound like your Windows 98 CD is "scratched" or the CD Rom needs to be
cleaned/replaced. XP is having problems reading the CD.

Also, to do the Windows XP upgrade, the older Windows 98 CD must be a retail
CD or an OEM CD. It can not be the "dreaded" PC Recovery CD, for this type
of CD is a full copy of the Windows 98 installation CD. This type of CD
contains a "compressed" image of the installed Windows 98 when the PC left
the PC assembler/manufacturer. It can only, normally, be used to re-install
the factory default configuration of Windows 98 back onto your PC.
