WindowsXP Home Edition

Frank R. Mai

I recently purchased and installed WindowXP Home Edition.

In doing so, I found Windows FrontPage 98 was not
compatible so I purchased FrontPage for WindowsXP but it
was for WindowsXP Office Edition and was not compatible

I cannot seem to find a FrontPage for the Home Edition of
XP. Does one exist and if so how can I order it or does a
previous edition work?

I use this software to operate my website which is
presently in a state of limbo.

As far as I know there is no such thing as Windows XP office Edition.
Frontpage for XP is compatible with XP Home (I have it installed on XP
Home).
I think what you bought was an Upgrade CD in which case you'd need a
qualifying product to do the install. If Frontpage 98 is installed it should
have found it and qualified you for the upgrade.
If it didn't and isn't giving you the option of showing you where it can
find a qualifying product then I am not sure what the issue is unless you
have a bad dsk.
What I do know for certain though is that FrontPage XP is compatible with XP
Home.

You have a lot of things mixed up.

Microsoft Windows XP is an operating system.

Microsoft Office is a suite of applications that run under various
operating sytems. The previous version was Office XP, the current
version is Office 2003.

I actually suspect that FrontPage 98, although not written for Windows
XP, will run under it anyway. I'm not certain of that, but most Windows
98 programs DO run under Windows XP.

I also suspect that FrontPage for Windows XP will run under XP without
Microsoft Office (any version) being installed. Front Page is part of
some versions of Office, but only some versions.

If I were you I would first try to install Front Page for Windows XP.
If that doesn't work, you could try to install the 98 version, but my
expectation is that Front Page for Windows XP will probably install just
fine.

Yes it is. What makes you think it isn't?

No, it's part of *Office XP*, but can be bought separately, as
you did. There's no such thing as "WindowsXP Office Edition."

and was not compatible

Yes, it is. What makes you think it isn't?

I cannot seem to find a FrontPage for the Home Edition of
XP. Does one exist

No, one doesn't exist. There's no such thing. Few, if any,
application programs are written for specific operating systems.
Nevertheless, most recent applications work under Windows XP.

and if so how can I order it or does a
previous edition work?

Both the editions you have work.
