windowsime.exe

I have win2000 with service pack 4. Lately I have been getting an error that
says "windowsime.exe failed to run..." I think this might be a virus but
cannot find any info on it. I tried to delete the file and the reg files, as
the .exe is in the winnt/ime folder, but it reinstalled itself. In the task
manager it will be running 4 or 5 times. The properties on the file gives no
information as to who the program belongs to. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Squeaky

I started getting the same error message just recently and wondered if it
was a virus. Seems odd we both are getting the same error message at the
same time. I wish Microsoft would look into this.

I have also recently encountered this problem in Windows 2000. I am 99%
certain it is a virus. When I have no internet connection, it does not start.
Whenever there is an open internet connection, it starts. I have seen up to
15 copies of this program running in the task manager at one time.

It creates a hidden file in the C:\WINNT\ime folder called windowsime.exe.
It also creates several registry entries. Even when I go in and delete every
registry entry related to the program, it comes back and replaces itself.

Microsoft...it's time to fix whatever vulnerability lets this thing in.
