"I have just replaced my hard drive and re-installed Windows XP from my
original disc. I have tried to install SP2 from a disc received from
Microsoft, and have also tried Windows update. The automatic windows up date
has also run several times and I always receive the same error message
"Service Pack 2 set up error, Not enough storeage is available to process
this command"

I have the same amount as RAM as before and I have increase my drive from
30gb to 150gb.

Anybody help me

Is all your hard drive being recognised by Windows XP? Is your hard disk
formatted as FAT32 or NTFS? Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative
Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management to find out the answer to
both questions.

Thanks for reply Gerry, I have followed steps you suggested and get
information as follows
Volume = c
layout = Partition
Type = Basic
File system = NTFS
Status = Healthy (System)
Capacity = 149.04 GB
Free Space = 145.31 GB
%Freq = 97%
Fault tolerance = No
Overhead = 0%

I am not sure what all that means

Can you please provide precise details of the description of each of the
two CD's as it appears on the face of the CD.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk
Defragmenter, Analyse, View Report. What does it say the cluster size
is?

How much RAM memory do you have?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Is there an Error Report for the problem in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

As of now what anti-virus and anti-spyware programmes are installed?

Prior to installing SP2, please read this:

Preparing for installation
http://winhlp.com/WxSP2.htm#Preparing_for_installation

Then show hidden files, folders, and system files:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp

Suggest you delete the contents of
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

IF the installation of SP2 fails after following the preparing for
installation steps and deleting the contents of the Download folder,
open the SP2 installation log files:
Service Pack 2 installation log files

If the installation of Service Pack 2 does not finish normally, you can check the
following log files for clues at what may have gone wrong.

%windir%\svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

You can replace %windir% with your actual Windows folder, normally: C:\WINDOWS

Start with the svcpack.log and see if you can locate any FATAL errors.

Thanks for your assistance Gerry. As i had mentioned before I had a brand new
hard drive and I was using my Original microsoft XP Disc and a Microsoft
supplied Service Pack 2 disc. so I had hoped that everything should be
straight forward. When I was following your suggestions I noticed my hard
drive needed de-fragging. after I did this the the Automatic update installed
the service Pack 2.

Figures EH !!!

Anyway thanks again

Thanks for your reply. In looking at some of the suggestions Gerry gave me I
found that even though I had installed a new hard drive, and had only
installed XP from my original Microsoft disc and tried to install SP2 also
from a Microsoft disc the hard drive needed defragging. After I did this
automatic update managed to install Service Pack 2.

Again thank you
