Hello to all, would someone please assist me in a problem on the booting of a
sony computer.
First let me state that the computer is one that I have had in storage for
some time in my home. Now my grandaughter is 11 this Christmas, so I thought
I would connect the system and make sure all worked. Herin lies the probelm,
when I boot the system it goes to a boot screen and ask
Option 1"Windows Setup"
Option 2 "Preveious Version of Windows"
I have only Windows XP Home on this system?
I looked for the boot.ini in the root of the "C:\" and it is not found "I
have show hidden files on"
I wish to solve the problem with the group's support, all help would be
greatly appreciated

Hi Lawrence,

Does Windows load properly, and is the boot menu the only thing wrong?
You didn't state that.

If so, right click on My Computer and select Properties, Advanced tab,
Startup & recovery Settings button, click the Edit button.

From there look at the default line. Match that lines first 4 items to
the one under [operating systems] and remove the other line, being
careful to pay attention to any line wrapping. Save the file and when
you reboot it should boot without any menu prompt.

First off, if I was giving away a computer, even to a family member, I'd
wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall Windows and any other programs that
came with the computer. My goal would be to restore the computer to the
state it was in when it left the manufacturer. That way I'd be sure that
none of my personal information remained on the machine.

That said, here's my take on your problem. It looks like someone started to
install Windows Vista on this computer. You need to restore Windows XP's
bootloader. The simplest solution to this issue is to download, install in
XP, and run this program.

VistaBootPRO 3.3
http://www.vistabootpro.org/

Once you've launched the program, click on System Bootloader.
Select "Windows Legacy Bootloader".
Select "All Drives".
Hit the "Install Bootloader" button.

Restart your computer.

The alternative procedure is to boot with your XP installation
CD into the Recovery Console and run the fixboot C: command.

To start the computer and use the Recovery Console
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...docs/en-us/recovery_run_console.mspx?mfr=true

Fixboot

Good luck

It looks like someone started to install Vista on that machine.

I found this by searching the "Warning: Use BCDEDIT.EXE..." line:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-2519827.php

Scroll down to the last two suggestions. Neither are a quick fix.

If you don't want to mess with all that, I suggest changing your timeout
from 30 to 0 and calling it a day. You can do that by editing the
boot.ini or using the GUI portion of System Startup instead of clicking
the Edit button.
