Just had a problem and the dreaded "Blue Screen" - all sorted - and I think
arose from both C and D drives being virtually full. They are now in a
healthy state but screen freezes on "Windows is shutting down"

Generally opening and closing is slow - tried scandisk, defrag etc any ideas
?

three checks:
a) you did an update of xp over a prior windows ? (must be clen)
b) your thirds software installed could be the problem
c) XP supports the following two methods of power management: Advanced
Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) and Advanced Power Management
(APM), when ACPI support is not installed, Windows XP installs APM (The apm
tab is present and enabled in the Power Options tool in Control Panel o
isn't ?) if is enable and have problem try to update bios
