Hi,

i've got quite a problem with my xp network

my pc wont connect to anything nomore...
no internet (ADSL)... no network...
i have windows xp sp2 on all machienes in the network,
all the pcs network fine, except mine ;(
i can't ping any other pc and when i try to go online it sais:
"the remote-computer did not awnser"...
it's like theres a firewall blocking everything...
but theres no such thing!

i installed xp on a different harddisk, to make sure its not a hardware
problem. the new installed one works fine!
and i have the very same settings as in the old installation...

since i don't feel like re-installing my whole system, pls help!

thx

Moritz

PS: pardon me, for my not-all-well-english ;)

Carey - I have a strange problem that just started happening a couple of days
ago (over the weekend) and I get "TCP/IP CP reported error 2: The system
cannot find the file specifed" right after I connect using dial-up networking
(that's all I've got - no DSL within 15-20 miles!). I went to your site and
tried to go to the XP Pro "Network setup" because I figured that is my best
bet to get things back 'right'. Unfortunately, when I try to get to the
XPPro2.htm page (second page) I get a "Page not found" error.

Help, help, help! (sorry, I don't usually get hysterical, but this one is
driving me nuts!)

Temporary or just a fluke? (I know you're bound to be busy, but - if you
could, send it to "(e-mail address removed)" - my personal e-address)

"Happy holidays", folks!

I'm not Carey, and I'm sure he'll be around soon, but in the meantime,
go through MVP Hans-Georg Michna's network troubleshooter here:

http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm

This will help you narrow down the issue. Also, don't ever post your
real, unmunged email address in Usenet or on messageboards. It will get
harvested by spambots and you'll get lots of unwanted email.

Hi once more,

nothing solved yet...

maybe this helps to narrow it down:

ping 127.0.0.1 ok
ping localhost ok
ping my-NetBIOS-Name ok
ping 192.168.0.1 (the networks server) FAILED!
ping another-pcs-netbiosname FAILED!
pinging my pc from another one FAILED!
on the status window of the lan connection the package send / recieved
sais: "many send - none recieved"

on more thing: when i ran the xp-automatic-network-troubleshooter it
failes of course to ping the gateway (192.168.0.1).
but this troubleshooter shows me two network adapters (?)...
the one thats on my mainboard (Sis 900 based) but also a
"Ethernetadapter of the AMD-Family".
Maybe that is one of the PCI-Cards i tried...
but its no longer in the pc (?)...
in "network connection" and in the hardware-manager
(or whatever that is called in the english windows versions)
there is only the SIS900.

to my surprise the other network pcs can see my pc in the network
environment.
but when it try to access it it sais:
"cound not access \\netbiosname -
you may not have the right too...
- could not find the network path"

what i've tried yet:
- disableing and enableing the lan-connection
- running the "set up a network"-wizzard
- clicking "repair" in the status window of the lan-connection: sais:
"could not repair"
- installing new drivers for the SIS-Chip
- messing with the tcp/ip-options
(i know what i'm doing - as so i think ;))
- netsh winsock reset
- netsh int ip reset

nothing helped...

so pls pls help! i'm stuck

Try going through the XP HOME setup tips... they are similar. The XP PRO
pages have not yet been developed, hence the page not found error.

Moritz,

My sympathy to you, your thread has been hijacked. An unfortunately normal
state of affairs in Usenet.

Your problem may well be hardware, at least that is where you need to start. Do
the lights on the network card light up? Have you done a hardware diagnostic
(My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager - (Network Adapter) -
Properties - Troubleshoot)?

Try another network cable and router port for connection - preferably swap cable
/ port with another computer that works.

Provide ipconfig information for your computer, and for one computer known to
work.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is
NOT checked!, copy and paste entire contents into your next post. Identify
operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig listing.

No mention of the network adapter. Not that's terribly significant given
analysis below, but...
at the time i have 2 hdds in my pc... both running xp...

just did it... useless...

What specifically did it tell you?
did that last week... ;)

What happened?

i hope you can understand that ;) (if not - ask!)

Babelfish is my friend! ;-)

OK, Eden, the problem computer, is connecting to the router, and getting a valid
ip address. So no apparent physical problem. And Eden, as well as NEWXP, is
Node Type = Mixed. So no problem with name resolution from node type.

What make and model is the router? Any chance it's got a MAC filter?

Let's do some analysis of the problem. Take the following code (everything
inside the "#####"). (Did I get the names and ip addresses right)?

Copy the code, precisely as it is keyed, into Notepad. Ensure that Format -
Word Wrap is not checked.
Save the file as "cdiag.cmd", as type "All Files", into the root folder "C:\".
Run it by Start - Run - "c:\cdiag".
Wait patiently.
When Notepad opens up displaying c:\cdiag.txt, first check Format and ensure
that Word Wrap is NOT checked! Then, copy the entire contents (Ctrl-A Ctrl-C)
and paste (Ctrl-V) into your next post.

Do this from both Eden and NEWXP, please.

#####

@echo off
set FullTargets=Eden 192.168.0.75 NEWXP 192.168.0.119
set PingTargets=127.0.0.1 192.168.0.1
Set Version=V1.05
@echo CDiagnosis %Version% >c:\cdiag.txt
@echo Start diagnosis for %computername% (Targets %FullTargets%) >>c:\cdiag.txt
for %%a in (%FullTargets% %PingTargets%) do (
@echo. >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo Target %%a >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo. >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo "ping %%a" >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo. >>c:\cdiag.txt
ping %%a >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo. >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo "net view %%a" >>c:\cdiag.txt
@echo. >>c:\cdiag.txt
net view %%a >>c:\cdiag.txt
)
@echo End diagnosis for %computername% >>c:\cdiag.txt
notepad c:\cdiag.txt
:EOF

Hi,

thx for your help man!
Have you done a hardware diagnostic (My Computer - Properties -
Hardware - Device Manager - (Network Adapter) - Properties -
Troubleshoot)?

that thing just told me to seek help from somewhere else ;(
What happened?

well... nothing...
What make and model is the router? Any chance it's got a MAC filter?

theres no router... just a switch...
and a PC acting as a router (192.168.0.1)...

whats MAC-filtering?

ok... i ran the bats...

this post would have ran a bit if i postet the results in here, so:
