Hey all,

I recently assembled a new rig and wish to install my Windows XP
professional as my OS. The system posts and boots, I can enter/edit the BIOS
just fine , but when the system goes to install XP professional the system
automatically restarts, I suspect it has to do with my MAXTOR 200GB SATA2
drive that I have on the rig, it's my only HDD at the moment, so no RAID but
something causes it to reset, any ideas????

Thanks in advance

Check your motherboard manufacturer's web site for drivers for
you SATA drive. You'll need to place these drivers on a floppy
disk. Early in the XP installation you should see a notice on
the bottom of the screen instructing you to "Press F6 if you
need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver...". Put your
floppy in the drive, press F6 and the installation should
proceed.

Good luck

i've partioned it unpartioned it , formatted, done just about everything, the
bios always sees the 200 GB but sometimes windows does not when i go to
install the os
i think it's pretty wide spread problem but haven't located a fix yet

What service pack level is your install CD?

You need SP1 or higher to see more than 137 GiB. You need SP2 or
higher to automagically see most SATA controllers.
